De-Inflame Inflammation


Writing from Hawaii this week so the focus is on Hawaiian solutions to inflammation. What could be more Hawaiian than the pineapple? Or, to be more exact, an extract of the pineapple, bromelain.

The extract bromelain from the pineapple is an enzyme that reduces inflammation, helps swelling and, as a welcomed side effect, drives pain away. It also helps muscles to heal.

Almost as Hawaiian as bromelain is fish oil. This omega-3 rich oil not only reduces pain and aid in inflammation. In one study, fish oil was just as effective as NSAIDs in relieving back and neck pain. In another study, 40% of patients with rheumatoid arthritis were able to cut back on their NSAIDs.
