If there was one myth about exercising it would be the notion that a little bit doesn't help.  Granted, the more you work out the more weight you'll lose.  However, if you do nothing then you won't burn any calories.  So, if you can only fit with five minutes a day for your walking schedule - then just do five minutes anyway!  This is far better than doing nothing at all.

I totally agree. The fact that you can continue less intense exercise activities as age takes its toll, lead me to believe that working for a target heart rate might actually creating a few metabolic problems later in life.

IF it takes a great deal of effort or intense activity to burn calories efficiently, you are bound to gain weight as your ability starts to change with age!
